Christmas kick-start

It feels like 2008 has sped past, but looking backward it seems like it began forever ago with all of the events that have taken place. Now, here we are already just a week away from Christmas and preparing to begin our reading schedule with the coming of the new year.

Whatever your opinion on the establishment of the Christmas holiday, since the 4th century it has been set aside by Christians to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

Regardless of the time of year and celebration, the story of Christ’s birth is one of great wonder. It shows God marvelously working miracles through ordinary people like you and me. It reveals the fulfillment of prophecies spoken hundreds and even thousands of years prior. It gives a glimpse into the spiritual world with the appearances of angelic heralds and choirs. It echoes the joy of men awaiting His arrival as Messiah, and it shows the utter hatred at His arrival by evil opposition. More importantly, it provides hope to mankind with the coming of the One to save us from our imprisonment to sin.

A few weeks ago, I purchased the recently published New King James chronological study bible. Below are the passages for the nativity story as laid out in its pages. As we go through this Christmas season, I would invite you to read this story as it unfolded. Marvel at our Creator God who loves us enough that He set aside His glory and lowered Himself to take the form of a man in order to save all that willingly accept Him.

John 1:1-18
Luke 1:1-80
Matthew 1:1-25
Luke 2:1-38
Matthew 2:1-23
Luke 2:39-40
