Week 24

Demands on my time have prevented me from doing an adequate study on the passages we read this week, so I will simply take a moment to comment broadly.

We have read many wonderful proverbs which we should take heed of as lessons on how to live a righteous life before God, and how to live and treat other people.

Despite Solomon's God-gifted wisdom, as no person had before or since shall have, on proper and wise living, we see in his later years that he turned away from God's commandments also and began worshipping Ashtoreth, Molech, and Chemosh. (Astheroth was a fertility goddess worshipped with orgies - Molech and Chemosh were often worshipped with human sacrifice).

God had instructed the Israelites not to intermarry with the surrounding nations, but Solomon had married hundreds and still yet had more concubines. In the end, we read, his wives brought about his turning from God to worship strange gods.

We face urges and temptations that try to pull us away from God all the time. We must consciously decide each time to stay in alignment with God and His word. This is yet another strong case for accountability with other trusted believers. When we struggle with the battle, we can rely on our brethren to help support us.
